Chain Reaction of Help

Dear All, Greetings from Sai Anugraha!!!

This blog is about CHAIN REACTION. We all know what a CHAIN REACTION is. A chain reaction is a sequence of reactions where a reactive product or by-product causes additional reactions to take place. In a chain reaction, positive feedback leads to a self-amplifying chain of events. That is Science.

But today the Chain Reaction which I’m mentioning below is about HELP (extending helping hand to the needy i.e. doing service). Hope the concept is new or may be different or may be wrong or sounds like a movie story but this worked out very well in many times and I’m mentioning 2 here.

You all know from Sai Anugraha we extended our helping hand to below students
  1. Gowthami by paying her III & Final Year college fee for her BE course referred by Prasad.
  2. Distributed School uniforms and note books to students at Government Girls High School, Cheepurupalli reffered by MVLN Murthy.

Chain Reaction # 1 Gowthami

Gowthami, a bright student from middle class family got good rank in Engineering Entrance Examination (EAMCET) and was very happy that her dream of becoming Software Engineer will be fulfilled in 4 years. But all of a sudden, she lost her father and was not in a position to pay the college fee. She approached SAI ANUGRAHA for III and Final year college fee. With the help of our Sai Anugraha family members, we paid the fee and she successfully completed her BE course and got placement at Mphasis in 2011.

Here comes the Chain reaction in the case of Gowthami. When we paid the college fee of III year she wrote a thanking letter and mentioned “I thought of serving the poor and needy the best way I can and started taking free tuitions for the children who are from below poverty line and middle class who cannot afford for tuitions”. I felt very happy reading this. I did not ask her any help or did not tell her to help the needy. But she was moved by the situation in which she was at that time and thought of extending her helping hand to the needy. I’m very confident that the kids who got free tuition from Gowthami when they settle in life will definitely extend their helping hand for the poor and the needy.

Chain Reaction # 2 Students of Govt. Girls High School, Cheepurupalli

You all know Sai Anugraha distributed school uniforms in 2009 and note books in 2010 and 2011 to the economically backward students from Govt. Girls High School, Cheepurupalli referred by MVLN Murthy. In 2009, we got 1 medical help request referred by Jitendra for Lakshmi who was suffering with Blood cancer and admitted in CMC Hospital, Vellore.

In 2009 we were not collecting monthly or yearly donations. We used to collect money only when we get any request. So we were not having single rupee in Sai Anugraha’s account. I thought of dropping email to entire group asking for donations. I called my dad and updated the situation and he was moved by Lakshmi’s situation and suddenly became dull after hearing this news. Students who were there in the class noticed this and got full information from my dad and announced in the assembly session next day that “Sai Anugraha is going to help a poor girl in Tamilnadu and are running short of funds.”

Surprisingly they collected INR 500/- on the spot and sent to me and asked to utilize the amount for Lakshmi’s treatment. Here also either my dad or I did not ask for any help from the students but it came straight from the heart of the students which is a perfect example of Chain Reaction of HELP. I went to Vellore and handed over INR 10,000/- collected from Sai Anugraha family members. But, unfortunately Lakshmi died.

In the above 2 incidents, the help we extended may be small, but the thought which came in the young minds in serving the needy is very big and really appreciated. I’m thanking Gowthami and all the students of Govt. Girls High School for this from the bottom of my heart.

Thanks a lot for spending your valuable time in reading the blog. Requesting you post your valuable comments/suggestions about this port or any activities of Sai Anugraha.

Thanks & Regards,
Sai Anugraha

Open Your Eyes

Dear All, Greetings from Sai Anugraha.

Thanks to each and every one for participating in "Guess and Win a prize" competition. To know the winners and to read the replies, please click here.

Sai Anugraha is starting a new initiative "Open Your Eyes" to create the awareness on Eye Donation.

In India, 1.5 Million people suffer from Corneal Blindness and the number is increasing at the rate of 30000 every year. Corneal Blindness affects mainly children and young adults who have a long life ahead of them. On an average around 1 lakh corneas are needed in India every year where as ONLY 15,000 usable corneas were collected last year.

WE BURN OR BURY 75 LAKH PAIRS OF EYES……1.5 Million EYES…LEAVING THE 1.5 MILLION CORNEAL BLIND PERSONS TO LIVE IN DARKNESS. Because of this huge shortfall of donor eyes in India there is a long list of waiting patients.

Cornea is the clear, transparent, tissue covering the front of the eye. It serves as a window to allow light to enter the eye. Vision will be dramatically reduced or lost if the cornea becomes cloudy due to disease, injury or infection.

Main causes of Corneal Blindness

1. Injuries
2. Malnutrition
3. Infections
4. Chemical burns
5. Congenital disorders
6. Post operative complications

Corneal Transplantation

People who lost sight due to corneal defects can be restored sight through corneal transplantation. This is a procedure in which the cornea of donor eye is grafted to replace the diseased cornea of the patient. A significant proportion of blind patients can have their sight restored through corneal transplantation.

Who can Donate Eyes

1. People who wear spectacles
2. People suffering from:

- Diabetes
- Asthma
- High blood pressure
- Tuberculosis
3. Patients who have undergone cataract surgery can also donate eyes.
4. People belonging to any age/Gender/religion/caste.
5. Families can donate the eyes of their dear departed even if it has NOT been pledged before.

How to donate

1. The eyes need to be collected within 6 hours of death.
2. Call the nearest eye bank as early as possible after the death.

Things to do after making the call

1. Keep both eyes of deceased closed and covered with moist cotton.
2. Switch-off the over head fan.
3. Raise the head end of the body by about 6 inches, if possible - to lessen the incidence of bleeding during the removal of eyes.

Eyes removal takes under 10 minutes and leaves no visible signs that would interfere with common funeral practices. Eye donations give a gift of light or sight to others. It is consistent with beliefs and attitudes of all major religions and ethical traditions.

What can you do?

Do not burn ! Do not bury!! Donate Eyes!!! Learn about Eye Donation. Pledge to Support Eye Donation Movement and Encourage people around you also to Support.

So, ARE YOU READY TO Spread the awareness and SUPPORT THE EYE DONATION MOVEMENT? If Yes, please drop an email to mrkkishore@saianugraha.org keeping aravindkiran@saianugraha.org with your contact number.
